We have announced that the Leeds Mencap’s
Fabulous Fifties Ball will be held on Saturday 13 October at Leeds Met
University’s
Rose Bowl venue, with all proceeds going to Leeds Mencap – a locally funded
charity for children and families with learning disabilities.
Those attending the event are encouraged to dig out their
dancing shoes, as they will be accompanied for the evening by the Leeds
University Union Dance band.
We hope to attract more than 200 guests to the event in Leeds City Centre, which
will also boast a three-course dinner, an auction and a raffle with
lots of great prizes.
The chair of the ball committee, Carola Sharpe says that the event is
a great opportunity to help get the word out about Leeds Mencap.
“This is the fourth year I’ve been involved with the
Leeds Mencap ball, and we are very excited to announce a fun “fifties” theme –
it is a chance for everybody to dress up in some of their favourite vintage
fashions. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the decade her majesty was
crowned, continuing on the Jubilee celebrations for this year.
“Leeds Mencap does a lot of great work for families in
and around Leeds, and this is a fantastic way
for people to show their support for a worthy cause.”
The Diamonds are Forever ball last year raised more than £10,000
and our CEO, Frank Plumbridge, wants to build on last year’s good
work.
He said: “I am pleased that preparations for the ball are
firmly underway, as it is an important source of funding for our charity.
“We wouldn’t survive if it wasn’t for the generosity of
the local community who help support us, and these events are a great way to
help promote what we do.”
A special ‘early-bird’ offer is available for those who
purchase tickets before 24 June, with prices at £50 per ticket, or £450 for a
table of 10. The price includes welcome drinks, a three-course meal and entertainment.
